Cereals are the main group of food crops that provide grain – the main food for humans and many farm animals, raw materials for the food industry. Cereals are subdivided into:

• grain crops: wheat, rice, rye, corn, barley, oats, millet, sorghum, buckwheat, etc.;
• legumes: peas, beans, soybeans, lentils, beans, etc.

Cereals cover about half of the world’s cultivated area and are grown almost everywhere people live. In the temperate zone, the same grain crops can be spring and winter crops.
