Various varieties of grain crops have been the main source of satisfaction for the world’s population in food for a long time and, as a result, the main and increased attention is paid to the cultivation of cereals in agriculture. An all-around increase in grain production is the main task of agriculture. Along with increasing grain production, special attention is paid to improving the quality of grain.
To successfully solve these problems, it is necessary to improve the use of agricultural technology, introduce wider high-yielding varieties and hybrids, and improve the structure of sown areas. The efficient use of fertilizers is also of great importance.
Cereals are the main group of food crops that provide grain – the main food for humans and many farm animals, raw materials for the food industry. Cereals are subdivided into:
- grain crops: wheat, rice, rye, corn, barley, oats, millet, sorghum, buckwheat, etc.;
- legumes: peas, beans, soybeans, lentils, beans, etc.
Cereals cover about half of the world’s cultivated area and are grown almost everywhere people live. In the temperate zone, the same grain crops can be spring and winter crops.
